Penshurst
U15s v Plaxtol U15s - 22nd June 2010

Match report by Marcus Evans

It was a warm summer's evening at Penshurst. With Marcus Evans as captain Plaxtol lost the toss and were forced to field. Nick Bolam opened the bowling from one end and Jack Billingshurst from the other. The pirates got off to a flyer with an early wicket falling and the batsmen looking unsettled.  After 3 overs, Penshurst were 7-1 with a peach of a ball from Bolam. After the openers had finished, Penshurst were now 27-1. Then on came Jamie Richardson and Ollie Smith. Jamie had a great start to his spell with four coming off his first over. Ollie Smith soon found his stride in his second over getting a double wicket maiden, leaving Penshurst on 60-3 off 10 overs. Richardson was unlucky at points, and could have taken a wicket with Jack Cloke dropping his brother Harry who was playing for the opposition. Richardson's hard work soon paid off with a spectacular catch from Evans. Smith proved costly in his third and final over with his figures ending on 2-23.

Then debutant Matt Clark came on to bowl. He bowled with good control and aggression leaving the batsmen no room for error. He ended his 3 over spell with a wicket maiden and figures of 1-8. Then at the other end Jack Cloke came on hoping to make up for the dropping of his brother. He made an immediate impact getting a wicket with his first ball. It was towards the end of the innings and Penshurst were 109-6. Evans decided to bring the openers back on with Jack Billingshurst and Nick Bolam taking a wicket each in their last over, conceding 18 runs between them in overs 19 and 20. Penshurst finished on a respectful 127 -8, with Clark being the pick of the bowlers.

The sun was setting over Penshurst place as Plaxtol pirates went in to bat. It was a strong start with no signs of an early wicket. Nick Bolam and Jamie Richardson kept the scoreboard ticking over at a reasonable pace. The Penshurst breakthrough came in the eighth over, dismissing Bolam for 18. The Plaxtol number 3 was Ollie Bonner Davis who didn't last long when being trapped lbw for 2, by the Penshurst bowler. It was Clark in next, going all guns blazing and was caught for 20 after a short time at the crease. The injured Richard Holliday stumbled to the crease after a knock he picked up on the first ball of the match. Holliday stuck it out for while before getting caught on 18. At this point Plaxtol were 111-3. Jamie Richardson was still there when Harry Van der Hoek came to the crease. Jamie's innings soon came to an end on 45, when he went for the winning shot, he got caught by the wicket keeper. This left us with George Axworthy and Van der Hoek to hit the winning runs. They both ended up on 1 not out. Plaxtol won with 4 wickets to spare. A great effort by the team.

Plaxtol won by 4 wickets
